It begins with Kokila Modi's search for the perfect wife for her son, Ahem. She wants a naive young woman for her son. She finds that Gopi will make the perfect daughter-in-law for her and a dutiful wife for Ahem. Ahem had left his girlfriend for his mothers choice of girl, not realising that the one his mother chose is illiterate. There are many problems in their relationship. But, later Ahem starts loving Gopi and they become a ideal couple.
